here's the deal.... i use steam cleaners... OFTEN

like... OFTEN

currently i get the urge to steam clean the
carpeted areas of my house prolly once a
month. the actual times i've used a steam
cleaner in the past 5 months is ONCE....

but there is reason for it... and the reason for my post

to rent a shitty DIRT DEVIL steam cleaner
at any local supermarket will cost you $30
for 24 hour rental. (this does NOT include
the price of the cleaning fluid you have to
use in the damn steam cleaner) if anyone
has ever rented a steam cleaner... you know
what bullshit you have to do to actually
clean stuff.

anyways... so i'm thinkin i wanna steam
cleaner to OWN... and i go around and see
that the average steam cleaner runs between
$X -- $200... but i don't know shit and
i'm not familiar with any other type of
steam cleaner than those horrid ones at the
supermarkets.

so... is it a legitimate idea to purchase
my own? sure... the money is easily cashed
back in when you consider i'd prolly use
the steam cleaner once a month....

and granted, its an extraneous buy....
simply because i CAN hold out and rent one
from the supermarket... though usually
after i'm pissy enough about how shit looks
that i'm just KILLIN to rent one.

but... my Q is... would you?

here's the page that i was checkin steam
cleaners at:

CLICK ME!

after i went here... i got scared and wondered
if this was the type of venture i'd consider
getting into.

any thoughts?

I've dreamed of getting something like that for a while now but it's soooo expensive. I keep weighing the advantages vs the price....I want one! But how much is too much?

see... thats my thing.

i can easily hold off for months and months and
pay the $30 rental and take care of business...
buuuuuuuuut, if i had my own, i'd do it more often,
which would still reimburse me of the initial cost.
(and steam cleaning is so much better)

i'm definitely not asking for a vote... or to
get anyone to convince me either way.

i just want real ideas on what you would do.

We have one prolly most similar to this one.
Bissell ProHeat ClearView Plus Deep Cleaner 1699--- Picture

And all I can say is yes it feels like it does get the carepet clean or at least when you dump the tank a lot of dirty water does come out. But we only do it about once every 3 months or for spilled items.

My input would be that any of the hand attachments do about JACK SHIT as they have no revolving brush so you pretty much just soak what ever you are trying to clean and then try to suck the water back up from a wand that has no real sucking power leaving you with wet whatever.

You will not get close to profession A Steam Cleaner unless you plan on paying good bucks prolly in the neighborhood of $300. But since it says you the time of going and getting it and you could do ruffly a yrs worth of cleaning before you made up the price diff it has some advantages to owning your own. Be well away though that with the type that look like vacumes... the dont get very close to the walls. Dont hold very much liquid to vac with, dont suck as hard meaning you will have wetter carpet.

AND WHAT EVER YOU DO dont get one of those crappy assed Little hand ones. They are about as good as a bucket of water and a sponge. No matter the brand.

My suggestion... get one that you can return if you dont like it. That way you can try it out and if it didnt perform well, you could take it back. Second... get a really nice new vacume and that keeps most of the dirt from your carpets. We got a new one of those because of a new dog in the house and now we vacume about every other day and you would be surprised at how much stuff the new vac picks ups that the old one never did.

yeah... gotta new vacuum.... but a vacuum doesn't
pick up that unsightly dingy black shit in high
traffic areas.... which is what angers me most.

i am aware that the uprights are similar to
vacuums and i dunno that i'd use the wand/nozzle...
but i have seen some commerical SCs that could
suck the core of the earth straight through the
mantle.... i dunno that i'd need a commercial
type... but i like the functions.

hell no, i'd not get one of them hand-held SOBs...
i agree that its no better than a sponge/water....

i have been using resolve on my carpets... and
i just wanna put a little prop out to resolve
for kickin ass on stains
i highly recommend it.

my future steam cleaner will not come along for
quite some time, it seems... so i will have to
settle for the supermarket variety... which
does the job and is ok. but i'm still huntin for
a good permanent addition to the 'shatzy's necessary
appliance list'.....

the steam cleaner is just under the mixer and blender
